Caryle Enterprises, a women-led social enterprise in Kisumu, is inviting partners to support a day of menstrual health, hygiene and wellbeing for adolescents who often miss out on both supplies and reliable information.

Adolescence is when young people learn about puberty, menstruation, hygiene and respect. When families are under financial pressure, basic hygiene items compete with other needs. Girls need menstrual products, underwear and guidance on caring for reusable pads. Boys need hygiene supplies and honest information about puberty and shared responsibility, which also helps reduce stigma.

Caryle will reach young people through community outreach in seven settlements, giving priority to those facing barriers, including eligible orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). No participant will be publicly labelled by vulnerability status.

What happens on the day

Seven parts, designed so that learning, supplies and safe participation arrive together.

Community mobilisation

Fourteen point persons share information, refer potentially eligible adolescents and support safe registration, after a briefing on criteria, confidentiality and safeguarding.

Menstrual health and puberty

Age-appropriate sessions on menstruation, puberty, using and caring for products, myths and stigma, and where to find reliable health information.

Hygiene and wellbeing

Handwashing, bathing, oral hygiene, clean underwear and safe storage of items, plus how to ask for help. Boys and girls learn without shaming or singling anyone out.

Environmental awareness

Using reusable menstrual products, cutting avoidable waste and managing hygiene waste safely in the local context.

Kit distribution

140 DignifyHer kits and 70 personal hygiene kits, handed out discreetly from a controlled register, with instructions for use and care.

Welfare and safe delivery

An accessible venue, drinking water, meals, transport support, first aid and a named safeguarding focal person. Access needs are accommodated.

Monitoring and reporting

Attendance by settlement and gender, kits distributed, sessions completed, spending and in-kind gifts, shared in a post-event report.
